Australian Census Campaign

Say where you are now, not where you used to be.

Don't enter your childhood religion on the Census if you've left it behind.

Lets give the Government accurate information so they don't believe that you believe in banning Stem Cell Research, Abortion rights, and Free Speech.

Stop the National School Priest Program

Vote against the National School Priest Chaplain Program

You can vote to make fighting the illegal National School Priest Program a priority for GetUp

"Chaplain" is just a code word for Priest.

A Federal government tax-payer funded program for priests in every State School is obscene. Its a violation of the Anti-Discimination Act AND Section 116 of the Australian Constitution to demand a test of religion for a government funded job. State Schools have greater needs than a Government Priest.

Who will rid me of turbulent god-botherers? Not our first atheist PM

Two hundred and twenty million dollars would be an impressive chunk of change, even in the huge amount of dough carved out of the federal tax take for education.

Much less impressive however is Julia Gillard is wasting that much on a naked and sadly desperate bribe for the god-bothering lobby.

We’ve all read the words ''chronic'', ''underfunding'' and ''state school system'' placed one after the other so many times now that I hesitate to do so again, lest your eyes roll back in your heads, your brain functions flatline and you all start thinking of Wendy Francis as a reasonable choice for your upper house vote.

Obama vs Religion

This is awesome awesome awesome. Obama takes a stance against the dogmatic prejudice of religion. Some quotes:

"We are no longer a Christian nation."

"Folks haven't been reading the Bible."

"...universal rather than religion-specific values."

"...in a pluralistic society, we have no choice."

"...religion doesn't allow for compromise."

Pat Condell tells it like it is

Sheesh, Pat Condell is perhaps master of the rant.

In his latest bit, he talks about Fitna, Politics and freedom of speech.

So, you've heard lots of commercial news reports gushing over how amazing it is that a person with dark skin has become president of the USA. Ok... that's a landmark event, but the fact that Obama's skin colour is such an issue shows that we (by we I mean the whole first world) are still guilty of a racist mentality.

Racism is basically treating somebody differently based on the colour of their skin. "It's amazing that we have a black president" IS a racist thing to say. Didn't Dr King dream of a day when the colour of a man's skin should matter no more than the colour of his hair?

Separation of Church and State

Posted in

In America, the separation of Church and State was made law by the Establishment Clause of the US Constitution. This is why they don't have prayer in State schools and why they don't have prayer in Congress or the Senate. In Australia, we also have an Establishment clause in our Constitution that separates Church and State:
