The guest of the evening will be Emily Maguire. Emily Maguire is the author of Princesses and Pornstars: Sex + Power + Identity and the novels Smoke in the Room, The Gospel According to Luke and Taming the Beast, which was a finalist for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the Kathleen Mitchell Award. Emily’s articles and essays on sex, religion, culture and literature have appeared widely in publications including the Sydney Morning Herald, the Financial Review, the Griffith Review, the Observer and the Age.

The Sydney Atheists June Meetup

Note: This meetup will start at 6pm, with the topical hour and take place in the Clarendon Hotel, 156 Devonshire St, Surry Hills.

The speaker of the night is Max Wallace of the Australia New Zealand Secular Association. He published the book Purple Economy which argues that argues that democracies should be republics characterized by constitutional separations of church and state and that it is not the role of a state to ‘advance religion’ through tax breaks.

Atheists at the Observatory Part 2

On Friday 24 April, it was overcast. Now we plan to meet on May 8 to visit the observatory at Macquarie University, for an evening watching the stars. This is an additional night due to popular demand for the first night.

We got invited to attend Jamie Kilstein's performance at the Factory Theatre. You might remember that we went to see him earlier this year. His show is called "There’s No God and That’s Ok" to Sydney, even though it will be called “Let's Talk About Something Important Instead” here since he he’s added some new jokes. And the old one were already pretty good smile

Paul Brunton, Senior Curator, tells the intriguing story surrounding Galileo's formal defence of the Copernican view of the solar system. Published in 1632, Galileo's Dialogo was a landmark book in Western civilisation.
