About us

We are a group of people who say you can:

  • be a good person;
  • understand the world; and
  • live a fulfilling life in the community,

all without superstition or religion!

We want people to feel good, and be open, about living this way.

We are a formally constituted, non-profit organisation that:

  • works to overturn the negative stereotype of atheism by making a positive contribution to the community through education and by supporting secular charities;
  • acts as a voice of reason on important social issues such as secular government and education, equality of sex and sexuality, reproductive rights and the rights of the terminally ill; and
  • supports a community of atheist and atheist-friendly people who get together to celebrate life and have fun!

Education is at the heart of what we do. This includes:

  • advocating the teaching of evidence-based reasoning and secular ethics;
  • explaining the natural phenomenon of religion, its limitations and the fact that it causes harm;
  • showing that there is a better, more fulfilling way to live, one that is joyful, ethical and reasonable— we call this “positive atheism”.

We are member-driven and action-oriented. Find out more about how we work and how to get involved.

Our values are:

  • an open and inquiring attitude;
  • evidence-based reasoning;
  • inclusiveness and diversity; and
  • respect, compassion and goodwill.

We’re okay that people believe what they like, provided that they don’t hurt or restrict others. We seek a level playing field with religious organisations —we don’t discriminate against religious people or want special status ourselves.
